SLAVE TRADE IN FOOTBALL? - EDITORIAL

13 century was what it took for slave trade to be stopped all over the world, and then we thought it was all over. But looking back to the leagues all over the world, you won't help but notice a sign of slavery returning back to the world in a different format and dimension in our beloved game, Football.
Let look at some player being held at their clubs against their personal wishes owing to some former agreement or contract sign with their various clubs.

 Peter Odemwinge - West-Brom
In the January transfer window, the Nigerian International tried to force a move to QPR in the English premiership but saw his effort turned down as the club refused to let him have any sort of agreement with the London Club as a result forced  him to remain and play the rest of the season from the bench.
His life at the club never remained the same.

 Robert Lewandoski - Borussia Dortmund
The polish forward enjoyed a fantastic season with BVB last term and was tipped by many to join one of Europe big giant in the transfer window, but the players sight was set on just one destination. Dortmund harsh rivals Bayern Munich, although from a footballing angle the club is right to refuse selling their best player last season to strengthen their fierce rival, but it is against the player's desire which he stated in the early stage of the transfer window to join Bayern.

 Wayne Rooney - Manchester United
Former Everton starlet Wayne Rooney have being the center of attraction even before the start of the transfer window, after Sir Alex Ferguson stated days after he announced his retirement that Wayne Rooney wants to leave the Manchester outfit. Arsenal and Chelsea have reportedly launched a bid for the player but was turned down by the club, with the club manager on wednesday declaring that the player is not for sale at any price. Wayne Rooney still have two years lefts on his contract and would not want to force a move away from the club to protect his chances of being with the Three Lions for the World Cup.

 Luis Suarez - Liverpool
Many have considered the contract Suarez signed last year with Liverpool as unwise because no matter what he does or the action he takes Liverpool will not sell him this season, not to a rival club in England. During the Confederation Cup in Brazil the Liverpool forward made known of his desire to leave the club for another club playing in the champions league. But dew to the clause in his contract, Arsenal bid to bring the player to the Emirate since the beginning of August have being turned down by Liverpool. Suarez is reported to have told a reporter in during the preparation of Uruguay friendly match against Japan that he his ready to remain at the club this season. Who wouldn't? The World Cup is less than a year away.
With all these players held at their clubs against there wises, we fear slavery might just be back into the world.
