It is the fifth time that the Real Madrid captain has been recognised with this award, having won it in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. Casillas is the goalkeeper who has won the award the most, ahead of Italian Walter Zenga, who won it in 1989, 1990 and 1991.
